Service Description

Myofascial Release What is Fascia, and why is Myofascial Release Work such an important part of your massage? Fascia is connective tissue; a continuous webwork or network of tissue that wraps/encases muscles and muscle groups and connects every part of the body to every other part. Imagine millions of cobwebs running from every cell of your body to every other cell. Not only does fascia connect various segments of the body, it gives the organs and muscles support and structure and provides a communication system that connects all the body's tissues with all other parts. Myofascial Release Work or MFR, is not massage, rather, it is used to help equalize muscle tension throughout the body by stabilizing and relaxing the fascia. Any massage treatment which is preceded by MFR will have better results for the client. What happens when Fascia is tight? When your fascia is tight (it can fold over itself just like Saran Wrap folds over itself sometimes when you pull it out off the roll) it prevents the muscle from functioning properly which results in a lack of blood flow to the muscle, which is known as Eschimia. When fascia constricts the muscle (because the casing is now too tight), not only is blood flow restricted, but important nutrients that support the muscle, are now denied passage to that muscle. The function/benefit of Myofascial Release Work Myofascial Release work functions to warm up the muscles by means of gently stretching the tissue, allowing the muscles to begin to relax. Myofascial Release work creates what is called Vasodilation which is very important as the technique not only opens up blood flow but in turn lowers blood pressure. Remember, because fascia conforms to the shape of the muscle, the tighter the fascia, the more restricted the muscle becomes.
